North Suncoast Player of the Year

Why we picked her: Corbett was the most consistent player on the best team the school has ever had. Her stats aren’t eye-popping, 15 points and four rebounds per game, but she was a big part of why the Hornets won 26 games and advanced to the Class 6A state semifinal in Lakeland for the first time. “I’ll always remember how exciting that was,” Corbett said. “We had our own locker room. We got to have that whole experience with each other. Nobody thought we were going to go that far. It just kept happening.”

Season highlight: The postseason run, during with the Hornets beat nemesis Crystal River in the district and region tournament and also won at St. Augustine Menendez in the region final, stands out. But what Corbett said was most rewarding was the bond with her teammates. “Our year was pretty great. We’re always going to remember it. But what stood out to me was how close we got this year compared to last year. We all became best friends.”

Did you know? Corbett spent only her junior and senior years at Weeki Wachee. Prior to that she was at Gulf.

What’s next? She plans on earning her AA degree at Pasco-Hernando State College. Then she will transfer to St. Petersburg College to work on an elementary education degree. She does not plan to play basketball in college. “I want to teach little kids, like second grade. I have a little sister right now who is in second grade. I just think it’s such a cool age.”
