Pinellas Player of the Year

Why we picked her: Largo was not a playoff team, but that wasn’t because of Campbell. She averaged 26.4 points, more than half the team’s average for a game. She was especially good against the better opponents. She scored 40 points against East Lake, 27 against Tarpon Springs, and 42 in the district semifinals against Clearwater. And she also eclipsed 40 points in the Pinellas Senior All-State Game. “I had help from the team to get points,” Campbell said. “But that’s just something I do.’’ Although she is only 5 feet 4, Campbell averaged almost eight rebounds per game. She had 18 in the win over East Lake. “I think I’m an all-around player,” Campbell said. “I’m only 5-4 but I can get rebounds. Rebounds are just effort. Anybody can get rebounds.”

Season highlight: Campbell said that despite the record, the whole season was a highlight. She is most proud of the fact that she got better with each game. “Every game it seems like I did something that I didn’t think I could do. My confidence seemed to get higher during the season.”

Did you know? Campbell was at Seminole for the first three years of high school. She did not go to Largo until the spring of her junior year.

What’s next? Campbell will attend Indian River State College in Fort Pierce and play basketball. “I hope to stay there for two years to get developed and get my grades up and then go to a DI school,” Campbell said. “I’m looking forward to starting over in school. I want to do better than I ever have.”
