Darian Dublin is new Clearwater girls basketball coach

Darian Dublin has been named girls basketball coach at Clearwater. Dublin, 53, takes over for Allen Williams, who was Clearwater’s coach for the past two seasons.

Dublin spent the past 14 seasons at Palm Harbor University. In four of the past six years, the Hurricanes won more than 20 games per season. PHU fell to 3-18 this past season.

“I had heard that Allen may be leaving so I thought I would throw by name in the hat," said Dublin, who does not teach at the school. ”I actually thought about it when (Tom) Shaneyfelt left but I decided to stay at PHU.

There are no ill feelings toward PHU."This will be Clearwater’s third coach since Shaneyfelt left after the 2012-13 season. Paul Lang coached for four seasons and Williams coached for two. The Tornadoes were 20-3 last season and advanced to the Class 7A region semifinals.
